Melbourne based singer songwriter Marcella Maloney brings together her love of folk story telling, warm heartfelt vocals and jazz harmonies to create her unique contemporary style. “Marcella is an enchanting songstress and a pleasure to work with.” Jenny Leeson Director of “Strike a Note” festival.
Following the completion of an Advanced Diploma at Melbourne Polytechnic at the end of 2015. She will begin preparing to step out into the local songwriting scene as a solo artist. With a fresh new batch of original songs under her belt influences by both Jazz and World music styles from her time at Melbourne Polytechnic and also during previous travels through India and Europe.
As well as developing a solo repertoire Marcella is also working as part of an original acoustic duo alongside Colombian drummer/guitarist Victor Salamanca. The two have performed throughout Melbourne as well as at festivals in the Yarra Valley and are now taking some time out to write a new set of original pieces. “We would both like to expand the group and work towards a fuller more upbeat sound” they said.
Marcella has a keen interest in world music. In particular Indian classical vocal styles and Spanish and Latino rhythms and plans to immerse herself in both of these deeply cultural styles in the future. She speaks Spanish fluently and expresses interest in writing songs in Spanish as well as English.
